From Unreconstructed Nevada, Missouri,

Well, last weekend the town of Nevada hosted their annual Bushwhacker Days history festival. Once again the true history of our region was told through music, living history demonstrations and reenactments of Yankee atrocities.

Confederate and Missouri battle flags waved over the town square as people gathered to enjoy the present and remember the past.

My wife Linda gave two concerts Saturday afternoon. She ended both with Dixie and each time all in the audience stood to attention and sang with her.

Reenactors came from as far away as Liberty for the honor of portraying Missouri Partisan Rangers. These men and women marched in the parade Saturday evening carrying ten of our ancestor's flags. When they reached the grandstand a volley was fired in honor of the South. As they passed the Bushwhacker Museum a salute was given to this most worthy institution.

The Col. Coffee Camp, SCV set up a booth on the courthouse lawn. SCV and League of the South members loaned original Confederate military gear for the display. Commander Gary Ayers and my father had a steady stream of people all day asking questions of their history and the SCV.

The Bushwhacker Museum was as always, instrumental in assuring true history was represented. They sponsored the living history demonstrations, seminars and period concerts. Just yesterday I heard one of these fine folks say "We have no interest in political correctness, what interests us is our history as it happened. Abraham Lincoln did not receive one vote from Vernon county and per capita we gave more men for the Southern Cause than any county in Missouri. Vernon county was overwhelmingly Southern and will be represented as such."

So if ya'all ain't doing anything the second weekend of June next year, remember your Southern brothers here in the west. Come on over and celebrate your heritage with us.
